U•BASS Artist - Chris Baio

native of New York City, Chris Baio is a multi-instrumentalist performer, songwriter, and producer -- best known as the founding bassist of world-renowned indie rock outfit Vampire Weekend. His style on the bass is vibrant and distinct, citing influences from afrobeat to the British Invasion.

He has also released two full albums to date with Glassnote Records under the solo performance alias Baio: an eclectic and spirited electro-pop project with deep connections to his experiences as an American living abroad in London.

Chris first began performing with his Acoustic-Electric Ebony Fretted U•BASS in 2019 during Vampire Weekend's world tour of "Father of the Bride," including in the band's appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He uses the instrument on songs like "Sympathy" and "Hold You Now" for round and booming tone.
