The Best Ukulele Christmas Songs

The Best Ukulele Christmas Songs

Happy Holidays, from our family at Kala Brand Music! Something we always look forward to in December is taking stock of some of our favorite ukulele Christmas songs. These seasonal performances  on Kala ukuleles really lift the spirit! From Kala Artists to the greater Kala ukulele  community, it means so much to us when you use our instruments to spread some holiday cheer and capture the essence of the Season.

Here are just a few of our favorite ukulele Christmas performances out there:

“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” - Julia Nunes

A casual and catchy rendition of a Kala staff favorite ukulele Christmas song, we always love coming back to Julia Nunes’ version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” Accompanied by her Tobacco Burst Archtop Tenor, Julia filmed this one at the Grand Canyon!

“Fairytale of New York” - Vance Joy

This off-kilter Holiday jaunt was written by celtic punk band The Pogues in November of 1987 and has remained a niche holiday classic in an uncommon genre and style. It also turns out to be a favorite of Vance Joy, who tackled the tune in a memorable performance in his signature style: complete with coffee, holiday sweaters, and his 8-String Tenor.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” - All For Uke

There’s some ukulele Christmas songs so catchy and so Christmassy that everyone seems more than ready for their annual post-Thanksgiving appearance. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” with its playful melody and fearless protagonist, absolutely has to be one of them. We found it so easy to play along and learn the instrument on the ukulele with Kevin from All For Uke!

“The Christmas Song” Medley - Reneé Dominique:

Singer-songwriter Reneé Dominique has graced us with some beautiful ukulele arrangements over the years, but this has to be one of our favorites. This performance, her own arrangement and medley of “The Christmas Song” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” was filmed in South Korea’s Gangwon-do province.

“Winter Wonderland” - Ukulenny

Although we never seem to get snow here in the SF Bay Area, Ukulenny doesn’t let that diminish his Holiday spirit! A long time teaching artist for Kala, Ukulenny has such an ability to get everyone to at least try the ukulele and have a blast doing it. His rendition of “White Christmas” just encapsulates for us the optimism and cheer that he represents as a player and teacher.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” - Walk Off the Earth (and Giorgio!)

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” paints a great picture of family and seasonal joy. We think it was captured perfectly in this heart meltingly-sweet rendition featuring Giorgio, the son of Sarah and Gianni from Walk Off the Earth. If you’re still making your way through this list and just watched the video, we’re guessing you are smiling too!

“Jingle Bell Rock” - The Ukulele Teacher:

A Christmas tune that has always been very beginner-friendly on the ukulele, “Jingle Bell Rock” is one of our favorite up-tempo Holiday jams to direct new learners to at this time of year. Active as an instructor on YouTube since 2011, The Ukulele Teacher always knows how to break a tune down to a form that is fun to learn and easy to follow.

“Red & Green” - dodie:

We finish off our list with “Red & Green,” an original Christmas song from dodie. Debuted live on BBC 2, dodie’s original Holiday tune delivers her signature bittersweet tone via beautiful vocal harmonies, woodwinds, and her custom Kala baritone. Although a cheerful time of year, there’s no reason to shy away from a little December reflection.
