Kala recommends the MusicNomad Humilele Humidifier for humidity drops below 40%. The ideal safe zone for a ukulele is an environment with 45-55% humidity. Tonewood needs a certain amount of moisture to avoid complications that can occur from dry wood. Dry wood can warp, shrink and worse yet, crack your instrument! Wood dryness can occur due to air conditioning during the summer and with indoor heating during the winter. That's where the Humilele comes in! The Humilele rests securely on top of the strings to safely and evenly hydrate your Ukulele. Simply soak MusicNomad’s Humilele sponge in distilled water, replace the top, and position it between your ukulele strings. Very easy and low maintenance. Fits all sizes.

Hope it helps

I never thought of the idea of wood dehydrating and causing damage. It does make sense. So I purchased this with the hope that it really works. Check it daily to make sure its still damp.

Ukelele Humidifier

This Ukulele humidifier is pretty sweet, way different from my dampit for my upright, but works well for my Mahogany Tenor. This unit however needs distilled water to hydrate the piece of foam inside the unit, but once you get a bottle of it, set for life. It works well and easy to re hydrate.

Pricey but clever

I ordered three of these for my 3 ukuleles, concert, tenor, and baritone, after reading how important humidity is to their care. In the winter our humidity drops well below 40, which concerned me.

It is a clever invention and easy to use. I keep a small jar of distilled water in the room so it is ready when the foam sponge dries out. No way to know if it really works, only time will tell, but it makes me feel like they are protected, so I no longer worry about it.

I knocked it down one star because, really, ten dollars for this little plastic thing?

Easy to use & it works, what more need I say?

Simple, but good to have in desert heat, I.e. Arizona, especially in this humid season: monsoons.
