Blem Disclaimer

A “blem” instrument refers to an instrument that is completely functional and playable, but has one or more cosmetic flaws. This can range from a slight scratch or scratches, to a ding on the headstock, a possible mark on the binding, discoloration on the binding, or other visible flaws. The instruments in this section have blemishes and therefore are being offered at a discount. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please contact us within 10 days to return it for a refund. Cost of shipping applies.

Known also as Macacauba and Granadillo, Macawood has a growing reputation in the instrument world as a lively and spirited tonewood choice. Macawood hails from Central America, where it has long been called “the wood that sings,” and can be found growing today throughout Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. With tonal qualities similar to Rosewood, Macawood’s density provides a long sustain, overall responsiveness, and smooth bass overtones. Visually it is wild and fun, trading off chestnut and chocolate browns with an interlocking grain that all pops under our Premium Exotic high gloss finish.

I love this uke, with one small reservation.

This beautiful instrument is light years better than my beginner uke. But there seem to be some issues with some of the fret heights. Some notes are not as clear as others regardless of how hard I press down. That perhaps was the blemish rather than something cosmetic.

Very nice for the price

I'm new to playing the ukulele and this is my first tenor. It has a lovely sound and looks beautiful, although I'm not big on the high gloss finish. Every fingerprint shows. The only real complaint I have is the frets should have been filed off on the ends better. There are sharp edges. I'm afraid to try to file them down myself, but I might try. That is something I've never done. I don't get out much, and live at least 45 minutes from the nearest music shop, so I don't see myself taking it to a professional. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the instrument. Aloha!

New Kala Ukulele

I’m loving the deep tones of that Macawood uke. And the blemish, the only one I could find, is about the size of a quilting pin head on the back of the head stock.
