Sweet Sound, Beautiful and Well Crafted.
Kala got it right with this ukulele! The quality of the build hits you the moment you see and hold it. The thin body is comfortable, and the sound is so sweet. The arched back adds character. I got to compare it with the standard Spruce Top Mahogany Concert version, as that was mistakenly shipped to me instead of the Koa model. Before I realized that, I played the mahogany for a while. Kala service was fantastic and ultra-speedy at getting the correct instrument in my hands when I did notice. The mahogany version is equally well built and has a punchier tone with the signature mahogany sound- hard to describe but if it were a human voice, I’d call it somewhat nasal. The koa uke is brighter, more bell-like. The koa model is a little quieter than the mahogany too, but the projection is fine for solo playing. If you crave loud you probably shouldn’t be considering a travel uke anyway. It may be called a travel uke, but it is now my favorite for daily play at home. I love the sweet tone and the thing is so comfortable to play; sitting, standing with a strap, or even kicked-back in a recliner. The Worth strings take a few minutes to get used to. I found a lighter touch works best for me, which my little old fretting hand appreciates. And my ears love my Solid Spruce Top Koa Travel Concert Ukulele.
