Purchased for wife who has been struggling playing a full scale bass with small paws. She is left-handed limiting options available. She is very happy with now being able to play more comfortably. I am seasoned guitar player with many fine made instruments. My opinion is that quality build of this instrument is an excellent value.

I have a chance to accompany a gigging singer/acoustic guitarist playing bars, restaurants and parties and using a PA on sticks with a sub. I ordered an exotic mahogany acoustic electric Kala U Bass and requested Kala to install flatwounds and set it up for tuning a half step down to match the vocalist. Kala replaced the nut and strings and set it up in one day and shipped it out. Sounds amazing! And it takes up so much less stage than my Fender, especially being a lefty. The Fishman pickup sounds great, even playing with a pick. I can cover an acoustic duo gig, blues and even rock gigs with the U Bass.

There is a slight learning curve involved, given the tension (or lack thereof) of the strings. Mine is strung with Galli flats. The tone, amplified, is fantastic. Looking forward to a live gig in the near future.
