For the ukulele enthusiast with an interest in acoustic guitar, and vice versa, the Kala Solid Spruce Tenor Guitar is the perfect place to start. Our Tenor Guitar is shorter and lighter than traditional tenor guitars, making it suitable for children and players with smaller hands and fingers, as well as for fingerpicking or strumming. The Solid Spruce top and Pau Ferro back and sides pair to give it a bold contrast in appearance and a crisp, rich tone. The standard tuning is CGDA, but it holds alternate tunings and open tunings just as well. Each Tenor Guitar comes in a gig bag.

The Tenor Guitar as an instrument has an eclectic and storied past as a specialty 4-string guitar in the bluegrass and folk genres. Popular contemporary players like Warren Ellis and Neko Case have helped to keep this instrument in the public eye.

    Love it!!

I don't know if my thoughts count as a "proper" 5 starts—since I'm a drummer. 😅 However, I am loving using this guitar and learning the instrument. I could venture to say the action may be a little high, but I also may have very small and weak hand. And I'm aware that action can be adjusted. I can't fault Kala on the quality of this instrument and it makes me want to come back for more (looking at you U-bass!).

    Love my KALA tenor guitar!

I tune it like the top four strings of a six string guitar, and when I capo it up seven frets or so it provides the same “secret sauce” that Nick Reynolds gave The Kingston Trio back in the day - here it is in a duet with a Martin dreadnaught: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AVZlHXg5k7E

I wanted a whole year to post this review.

I am in love with my tenor guitar. I come from playing the ukulele, don’t regret this beauty at all. Did some changes , I have it set as the last 4 of a regular guitar. DGBE, the chords change a bit but not hard at all. I am a happy customer.

    Kala Tenor Guitar

So far, loving the Kala Tenor Guitar. I'm new to playing the instrument, normally a clawhammer 5-string banjo guy. I picked up the tenor, switched out the strings for GDAE tuning from the Standard CGDA and I'm teaching myself how to play Irish Session music with it.

    Great Sound

Currently have it tuned to CGDA and am learning the chords and scales. The sound is remarkable, and the action is pretty good. I am going to play around with different tunings including GCEA, because one of the students in my Ukulele class has big beefy and somewhat arthritic hands that make it difficult for him to play. This might be just the ticket for him. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because on the back there is a slight indentation along the middle seam. It does not appear to be a crack, but rather a poor job of gluing the pieces together. I am going to keep an eye on it and if it doesn't change, I'm not going to fret about it.
