    Sweet little thing

It's the cedar top that hooked me in. It turns out it had a crack that I was able to repair. I intend to use it for lessons for my grandchildren, and it is well set up, a great size and a quality build.

The price was great in the blems section of Kala's website.

Great value, big sound in a small package

This is the second Kala guitar I've bought in the last several months; previously, I bought the Cedar Top Parlor Guitar, which is very similar to this one. While this was marked "BLEM," I can't figure out why. It must be Kala's policy to sell any returned instruments at a discount. There wasn't a scratch on it.

I wrote a long review on Amazon, which I won't repeat here. But the gist is this: I think Kala is making guitars that, for the money, sound *way* better than anything else in its class. And they are very light and comfortable to play and travel with. I've already had mine twice in an overhead bin on American with no complaints from flight attendants. I think that Kala, having made ukuleles for so long, has figured out how to get big sound from a small package.

I bought this BLEM guitar to see how it would handle a K&K Pure Mini Acoustic Guitar Pickup, and the results are incredible. I've played it through my ToneMaster and Princeton Reverb amps (not made for acoustic guitars) as well as a Positive Grid Mini amp, and it sounds amazing without a preamp, with just a touch of reverb.

Now, I understand that most people won't go to this length to amplify a Kala guitar, and if you want one, Kala makes a thinline with built-in electronics. But I did, and because of it, there's no way I'm buying another guitar at this price point. Unplugged, it sounds bigger, fuller, and richer than a GS Mini or GS Mini Koa and sounds every bit as good as a Gibson parlor guitar that costs…
