These strings are worth changing out from the clunky rounds the bass comes with. They are very comfortable and really warm up the sound while providing a good amount of punch.

My U Bass journey has taken me from Thundergut, then Thunderbrown on my acoustic/electric to Round Wound when I bought my solid body. My wait for the Flat Wound finally came to fruition. Wow, what a pleasant difference. The flat wound are a joy to play. They react very well and produce a great sound.
My fingers appreciate them. I played it last night with the flat wound strings at a gig and got complimented by audience members.

When I first asked Kala about flat wound strings for my U-Bass (tobacco sunburst 4-string fretted), they were not available but the rep (I think Ash) said an email would be sent when they were available (being manufactured). Email was later received, order was placed, strings received. Put them on (measured to the existing string lengths that I replaced) and WOW, what a difference! Great playability, very comfortable, easy to install, and no change to the truss rod, bridge, or nut. Made some slight mods to the intonation of the E string, but no biggy (I always check when changing strings). Depends on your amp and EQ of course, but the sound created by these strings is wonderful and warm. I very much enjoy them.
