mxmtoon performs from 'rising' live in San Francisco
mxmtoon returned to the CA Bay Area this week for back-to-back homecoming shows at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, CA. Awash in blue and violet stage lights that spanned both the upbeat and the intimate, Wednesday night’s show was a fitting celebration of her brand new album rising.
Brand new songs from rising
Newly released songs “frown” and “sad disco” brought a fun & anthemic energy to the start of the show, followed up by favorites from 2020’s dawn & dusk, “no faker” and “okay on your own.” Donning her baritone ukulele and backed by a full band with drums, keys, & guitar, mxmtoon felt in her element in a brand new way and eager to connect with Bay Area fans in person for the first time since the pandemic.
plum blossom: an Acoustic Set
Changing gears mid-show, mxmtoon brought out her Signature Kala Concert Ukulele to deliver an intimate performance of three beloved songs from her debut EP, plum blossom: “i feel like chet,” “cliché,” and “feelings are fatal.” This set felt reminiscent of her last performance in San Francisco in 2019: a small acoustic show that fell at just the beginning of her meteoric rise as a songwriter and performer in the indie pop sphere.
mxmtoon encore, "Prom Dress"
Returning for an encore with her string section, mxmtoon closed out Wednesday night’s show with a memorable performance of “Prom Dress,” on baritone ukulele, and “Mona Lisa” before bidding farewell to fans!
