Gift Guide for the Everyday Player

Christmas is only 10 days away! It’s time to wrap up that last minute Holiday shopping. We’ve got some great last-minute, affordable options for the everyday player in your life!

Mahogany

We have two incredible Mahogany collections here. The Satin Mahogany line is Kala’s flagship collection and has definitely become an industry standard. The traditional design is highlighted with a satin finish, some with cream binding and some with no binding—also available with a spruce top. These ukes were built and designed to stand the test of time, making them a staple for generations to come. Available in all sizes, some with laser-etching, electronics, and a cutaway. The Gloss Mahogany line features a beautiful, high-gloss finish to enhance the simple elegance of the Mahogany wood. The gloss adds a smoothness and sturdiness to the uke and a unique cream binding ties it all together.  Available in soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone size. Concert size is also available with electronics, and the tenor size is also available with 6 or 8 strings with optional electronics. Pictured right is the Gloss Mahogany Concert (KA-CG). Exotic Woods

Unique woods make beautiful instruments. We’ve searched high and low for gorgeous woods that produce the incredible sound Kala is known for. The Ziricote line features a rich, dark, chocolate brown wood accentuated by a honey blonde Sapwood in the middle and along the sides, finished in a high-gloss, making those details pop. Available in soprano, concert, and tenor sizes. A baritone size will be added in 2018. Pictured left is the Ziricote Concert (KA-ZCT-C). Take a look at the collection here.

The Bocote line exhibits beautiful figuring of sweeps and swirls, creating an impressive, almost psychedelic look. Bocote is a dark wood from Mexico with an even darker striping that makes this wood unmistakable.  Available only in concert and tenor sizes. The traditional look of the Exotic Mahogany line is complemented by the one-of-a-kind grain patterns. The woodgrains range in variety from a wavy curl to a straight sharpness and everything between. Available in soprano, concert, and tenor sizes in natural wood or a unique, transparent blue finish. The natural wood concert and tenor are also available with electronics. The light brown body of the Pacific Walnut line, contrasted by the rich, dark brown patterns in the grain create the remarkable look that will take anyones breath away. The striking boldness of this uke makes a beautiful addition to any players collection. Available in soprano, concert, and tenor sizes. Tenor also available with electronics. The Ebony line has a deep brown body with reddish-brown striping, finished in satin for a more natural look. The light colored Maple rosette and binding creates a gorgeous contrast to the dark Ebony body.  Available in soprano, concert, and tenor sizes. Tenor also available with electronics. Archtops and Resonators

Though there’s only one, the Resonator definitely holds its own. This classic looking uke is fitted with a lightweight aluminum resonator directly into the Mahogany body. The resonator gets a brass cover while the body features elegant F-holes to give this model its distinct appearance. Pictured left, this uke is only available in a tenor size. Perfect for the jazz lover in your life, the vintage look of the Archtop line is embellished by the jazzy F-holes, making a classic looking ukulele. With a smooth Gloss Black, Gloss White, or Satin Sunburst finish, the Archtop continues to be a favorite among everyday players. Available in a tenor size with built-in pickups. Pictured left to right are the Satin Sunburst Tenor (KA-JTE/2TS), the Metallic Black Tenor (KA-JTE/MTB), and the Metallic White Tenor (KA-JTE/MTW). Check out the whole gang here.

Solid Tops

If you’re looking for something a little more flashy, the Solid Spruce Top Flame Maple might be the right way to go. These ukes consist of a Solid Spruce top and Flame Maple back and sides. The natural beauty of the Spruce is emphasized by the intricacy of the Flame Maple back and sides. Available in soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone sizes. Some of the most affordable ukes in the Solid Top family, the Solid Spruce Top Mahogany line is comprised of a Solid Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. The bright Spruce has a clean and bare look that pairs well with the elegant simplicity of the contrasting Mahogany. Available in soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone sizes. Tenor also available with electronics and a cutaway. Pictured center is the Solid Spruce Mahogany Concert (KA-SCG). Recently, Cedar has gained in popularity due to its soft, lush tone. The Solid Cedar Top line features Acacia back and sides with a Padauk rosette and binding. The Solid Cedar Top is perfect for finger style playing. Available in concert, tenor, and baritone sizes. The tenor is also available with 5 strings or a cutaway with electronics, and the baritone is also available with 8 strings. Pictured left is Solid Cedar Top Concert (KA-ACP-CTG).
