The Scout U-Bass is so Fun to Play

I have been wanting to try the U-Bass for a while now and when I saw Kala had a warehouse sale, I had to check it out. The Scout blem was available for considerably less than retail price. The blem was said to be a chip out of the fret board but that is hardly noticeable. More noticeable is a fingerprint in the top by the bridge. But only at the right viewing angle. This U-Bass is so much fun to play. I am a72 year old beginner but I'm having a blast with this Uke. Thanks, Kala, for having these sales. I will certainly take advantage of them in the future.

Amazing, heavy bass sound on a small and light instrument

For context, I'm an intermediate bass player who plays just for fun and as a hobby.

I just love this instrument, is so light, small and sounds so good without an amp that I just play it all day long, not like my electric bass. that needs extra steps to play. The rubber strings are a thing to get used to, they get a bit stuck to your fingers and they have low tension so playing fast is a a challenge, but I also kind of like that, it "forces" me to play more groovy lay down stuff. The bass tends to downtune, I guess its because the material of the strings, but the included in body tuner solves everything, I really don't mind at all tuning the instrument every time I pick it up. The E string is not as loud as the other strings, but also expected. The unplugged tone is just beautiful, that warm upright bass sound on a small instrument. I bought a BLEM for 190 dollars but its been weeks of playing and I haven't found anything wrong esthetically or functional, its cray value for the money. Even 70 dollars more its still great value.

Really fun thing to have around

    So much fun

This is such a fun instrument to play. I can't recommend it enough. It is great for playing and practicing on your own. No amp to noodle around on your own and you won't wake up the whole house. If you want to play with others you will need to plug in. Once plugged in, it has a wonderful double bass sound, especially on the low E-string. Did I mention it was a blast to play? I have a little battery power amp I plan to use when traveling but it sounds best on my Fender Rumble 25. I've found I get the best tone with the treble and mid turned all the way down and the bass most of the way up on the onboard EQ. This counter acts the lower perceived volume on the E-string. If you have a good bass amp, you can dial this in even further. This is an awesome UBass for the price. Kala is an awesome brand with great customer service if you need it.
