Great little travel bass, and an alternative to my upright bass.

Hello Kala, and a special hello to the Kala phone representative, Will, for his help in purchasing my little UBass. I bought the Kala solid-body, fretless electric bass with the stainless steel, flat-wound, strings. The flat-wounds, along with some sponge like material at the bridge, provides me the more upright sound that I desire for the bluegrass, folk and old-time country music that I play. I appreciate the overall quality of the instrument. Also, it's a great little travel bass. I would have liked the fingerboard to have no fret marks at all. I mostly play the instrument in an upright position using a camera monopod, connected to the bass with a quick-release device, to the end of the bass. I use an extending suction cup car cell phone holder to stabilize the UBass to my body when I play. I find that the short reach on the fretboard takes some getting used to. All in all, it's a very nice little bass that sounds great when you plug it into a good base amplifier.

Kala Solid body Fretless is a big "thumbs up!"

I didn't think I would like this u-bass. I was so wrong! It's awesome! Sounds great, plays easy , tunes like a charm and I'm sad to say I haven't given my other two any action since I got this one! Ok, not too sad at all!

    Great instrument

My fretless U-Bass with flat-wounds is tuned in CGDA. Trained on the cello, this is very familiar territory for me. So, cellists will probably experience as much pleasure with this instrument as I do. There is another benefit of the tuning, the "dropped D" is just one step above the C-string.
