Lovely Sound, Beautiful Look

Looked around my local ukulele store in Richmond, VA as I was curious to try out the tenor size. I played around with several tenors but just kept coming back to this one and ended up leaving with it. For me, this price tag ($400+ after tax) was a big deal, but I just loved the sound so much that I was willing to commit to the purchase. I have had it now for ~6 months and I just love the sound of this uke.

While with the purchase of this ukulele I now own one each of soprano, concert and tenor sizes, this has become my go-to. While the size is more comfortable for me at the fret board, the sound of the solid acacia really makes this stand out for me: a really warm sound that I just love. And 6 months after purchase I am so glad I did spend the extra in my budget for this one. We all have different budgets and this is certainly the high end of my range for what I am willing to pay. The sound that I get out of this really makes me feel that I got a lot of bang for the buck with this model.

I am a huge fan of the dark wood and this acacia is stunning. The fret markers are also a beautiful feature as the rings have what you could call a wave or a vine theme that provides a nicer detail that makes them 'pop' more than a standard dot fret marker. I added the brown tapa-themed ukulele strap that, to me, just complements this wood so much.

Bottom line: I absolutely love to play this ukulele! If you're like me and the appearance of this uke draws your attention to it,…

10 Year Review

I have owned the Kala Solid Acacia Tenor for 10 years now. When I bought it, Mike (Upton) was also promoting the MiSi Pickup system, consequently I also purchased it. I ordered both from Kala. I had the pick up installed by the luthiers at Dusty Strings, here in Seattle. It took 6 months to finally get my uke back in 2011 due to the backlog and growing pains Kala was experiencing, no doubt. When I finally got it I was overjoyed, to say the least! Curiously, it came on the very day I was moving north to Seattle from the Bay Area. I had been calling Kala daily then, worrying if it would arrive after I left California, how would I get it? When I opened it on that day, it was everything Mike promoted it to be. After playing guitar for 50 years, it was the perfect instrument to start my ukulele adventure. As I held it in my hands, I realized it was a solid instrument like my first Les Paul guitar. I knew I was holding a real instrument that didn't need pampered, but could be played with all the dynamics hard or soft I wanted to apply. Fast forward 10 years to now... This last year during the pandemic, I bought a open back banjo to learn clawhammer old time style picking, to while away the hours and keep life interesting staying home and staying safe. I played it exclusively for almost a year, until Christmas arrived. Ukulele is the perfect instrument for Christmas songs, old and new. So I got out the ukulele. Wow, having not picked it up in almost a year, I realized the sound had…

Great Ukulele

I' ve been playing ukulele since I was 12 years old, back in the 60s, and been a full time, mostly employed musician since 1980. I've owned several ukuleles, and played many others. This one is the best I've ever played, the craftsmanship is flawless, the playing action is dead one, and the sound is amazing. Also, just in the short time I've had it (been playing the heck out of it), I can hear it sounding even better.

I've attached a video.

Beautiful sound and design

I really like how warm and sweet the sound of this ukulele is. It definitely met all of my expectations for a solid acacia ukulele, and the sound rings fully which is something I was looking for. It can project really well because of how it rings. Overall I'm really satisfied with this ukulele. The design on the uke is also well crafted and beautiful. :)
