this bass can hold its own against any thing out there regardless of scale.I put flat wounds on it but sounded great with the rounds it came with . The flats I felt have a bit more tension. I also bought the California solid and love that they are different of course but this bass for the price is an excellent choice.The low B is punchy and adequate sounding and adds a nice low note when needed
