    excellent tone, resonance, sustain

My third - and best - Kala ukulele. I first "found" Kala ukuleles when I decided to venture into the ukulele world. Baritone seemed best choice with logical tuning, like the upper strings of a guitar. My first Kala was a basic laminated mahogany baritone. Even that was a well built basic instrument, had good tone, and frets were well in tune. Then, a solid Acacia model. That uke has a mellow, deep tone - beautiful purfling, rosette, and binding. I enjoy playing at night knowing it never disturbs others.....

So I decided to purchase this cedar top solid wood ukulele. I am happy I did. The solid top and Pau Ferro wood, striped ebony fingerboard provides a striking appearance. The tuners are gold color, and make a nice contrast. The frets are well in tune.

Now, the important part - the sound. I will say, I didn't care for the strings that came on the instrument. After I replaced, the instrument really sings out. I am impressed. Deep, ringing tone. Very resonant, great sustain, and has great volume. The highs are clear and just bright enough to balance the bass. I recommend this ukulele - and Kala as a brand.

    Excellent! Can't go wrong

Kala does it again. I have 3 Kala instruments, and this one does not disappoint.

This instrument is well designed, using excellent tone woods, construction. The tuners were very smooth when tuning. The string height at nut and saddle seemed fine, and intonation at the frets was good. The nut string slots were a little tight on 2 slots, binding the strings and requiring a slight filing.

Overall appearance is very striking. When received and I tuned up, the tone seemed a little recessed. But keep in mind a solid wood instrument's tone will improve with use / age. I proceeded to replace the strings - and wow - that brought out the potential of the ukulele. The lows resonate the whole body, mids and highs are clear, with tremendous sustain. (I have found a combination of strings that seem to bring out the best - low D and G strings from a set of D'Addario Titanium EG87B set, B and E from Aquila Nylgut 21U)

Although just beginning, I am very impressed with the quality, accuracy, and sound of the ukulele - especially at the price. I would say this should meet the needs of any player up to professional level. Highly recommended.
