To honor the 15th Anniversary of the U•BASS®, Kala’s Founder Mike Upton wanted to create something special for the yearlong occasion. So, he sifted through some of Kala’s private stock of Hawaiian Koa and hand-selected each of the beautiful top sets for the Limited Edition Solid Hawaiian Koa Top U•BASS®. The striking Koa body paired with an Ebony fingerboard and bridge is trimmed with Maple binding and Paua Abalone shell. The headstock features a special Koa branch and leaf inlay of Abalone with 15 white pearl flowers—representing the 15 years of U•BASS®.
Solid Hawaiian Koa Acoustic-Electric U•BASS® models are set-up with Kala Round Wound Strings.
This model is incompatible with Road Toad Polyurethane string conversions.

beautifully crafted , astounding resonance , put copper flats and the sound acoustically and amplified is quite warm and easy on the fingers. the rounds seem to resonate the top more when played acoustically. This was to me a special opportunity and I jumped on it. Glad I did

My new Kala U-Bass exceeded my expectations. When I first got it, I looked it over carefully and could not find anything wrong with it. There has to be something, right? So I picked up my magnifying glass and went over it again. This instrument is a tribute to the Indonesian craftsmen (women?) who built it. It is flawless.
As to how it sounds, I cannot speak with authority, this being my first acoustic bass, but as a lifetime woodworker, I think it is a work of art.
