    Pro bassist says YES!

I've been playing bass in bands and studios since 1979, everything from a Kay upright to a Zon 5-string unlined fretless, J and P Fenders, a Ricky, a Carvin, a Peavey, several no-name project basses, also mess around with all kinds of other stringed things. I got this bass for an upcoming plane trip as well as small busking type scenarios. I have an original Pignose battery bass amp - a perfect portable companion for the Kala. I am VERY impressed with the sound and the accurate intonation all the way up the neck. Don't expect to get plucked harmonics out of the rubber strings tho! Very accurate upright sound for the bluegrassers i often play with. The sound, the quality build, the concept and portability are amazing. It's a bit head-heavy, but i'll be experimenting with strap placement - should be fine. 100% love. Will be gigging and recording with it. Very unique and useful sounds. and it looks beautiful! Also i'm old and just don't care to wrestle with full-size bass gear anymore to get the cool sounds i want, and the visual shock value of this tiny bass at gigs will be fun. Playing this through a bi-amped PA system is like electric walrus guts - HUGE!!!! POWERFUL!!!! The 4- element piezo pickup is powered with two 2023 coin batteries stacked in a sturdy clip-secured holder next to the input jack. 3-band tone shaping, volume and tuner are solid and easy to use. 110% satisfied, would buy again!

    Nomad U BAss

Pleasantly surprised by this bass. Kala had a sale going. I bought the least expensive model available. The built in tuner and preamp, are a nice touch, and work extremely well. There is a bit of a buzz coming from somewhere in the body that only resonate on certain notes. Apart from that, the build quality is very good. The tone is excellent. Would be easy to emulate an upright bass tone with this Kala. And, the "fatness" of the sound will not disappoint! It would be nice if there was a second strap button. There is only one, located at the bridge end of the bass.

    Extremely Playable

Some instruments I feel as if they are fighting me as I struggle to play them, thinking that it’s me and maybe my lack of ability or not enough practice. My U-bass I felt as if it was working with me almost as if it said to me “yes and” that it felt like something was added to the music I was making. The thunder black strings made me wish all the basses I have had them, one draw back to the strings is that they seem to go out of tune slightly, only slightly more often, probably due to their added flexibility. I feel a kinship and affinity with my U-bass that was immediately evident, I would also love a full scale and even more an upright version; cheers and thanks much for a lovingly - created instrument.

    Amazing Bass

I loved the instrument, the wood, the small, also I was not expecting a case or the tuner to be included which really surprise me. Thank you very much

    Love it!

I play the upright bass, but I live in a dorm so I don't have space for it. This bass ukulele is great. The built in tuner is incredibly useful.
