I was noodling on my U•BASS when I got the email to review it. I am really impressed with the instrument and am pretty shocked by the build quality for the price. All electronics work well, but I enjoy playing unplugged. It's loud enough and sounds great on its own. I highly recommend!

I’m primarily a rock and roll Electric bass player. Started on uke about 6 years ago because of its fun factor and to give my brain a little kick-start. Now, when I travel my uke, acoustic bass guitar and tiny amp are my constant companions. Recently, I find I’m playing the uke more over the larger acoustic bass guitar which take up a lot of storage space in our camper converted mini van. I wasn’t excited about the rubber string u-basses and decided round wound strings were more my style. I made the move and ordered the wanderer. The mahogany is nice woody and warm acoustic bass sound. I expect I’ll be using my tiny bass amp to be heard when I have the opportunity to play with others - but I have to plug in my Acoustic bass guitar in those situations anyway. I’m at peace with my Guitar Acquisition Syndrome ...

Before making my purchase decision for the Kala Wanderer, I spent a good deal of time playing, comparing and watching numerous You Tube Reviews from the likes of Rachel @ Ukulele Wales, StephenCoxBass, Alex of the Southern ukulele Store and many others. I settled on this New Wanderer which now comes outfitted with Round Wound strings which are easily upgraded to Flat Wounds, if wanted. I like the wood selection and the rear "Magnetic" access panel vs. the screw on plate which seems to separate the U-Bass feature lineup. The tuners are great, the build is great, the built-in electronics are wonderful and the action and playability out the box was perfect. My new Kala Wanderer U-Bass has me playing and practicing Bass many hours more per day every day of the week adding up to ALOT more playing time. I highly recommend the Wanderer. I consider it Kala's "Best Buy" in the entire U-Bass line...
