A looker and a grand plucker!

I bought the Kala West Coast Woods Myrtle Top Tenor Ukulele directly from Kala’s e-commerce site. It is an extremely attractive ukulele with beautiful figure on both the Myrtle top and walnut back and sides. It’s not a screamer—softer than my Koa and Doghair Elite tenors—but the tone is ideal for late-night fingerpicking and rasgueado with nails. And unlike many of my other ukes, no wolf notes whatsoever. One oddity with this model is it is sensitive to pressure on the back. If I play a chord with the uke pressed against my stomach, it sounds okay but is a little muted. If I pull it away—no longer touching my gut—volume goes up noticeably!

The only gotcha for me is the Kala logo gig bag it came with—not nearly as nice as the…
