    Guitar sounding uke

I was looking for a uke that I could take with me on a plane, in a backpack, have some live music with friends without carrying a large thing with me. This is ideal. The sound is impressive.

Beautiful and dynamic but not for me

The Revelator Nautilus Premium Korina Tenor Ukulele was not available locally, so I bought it directly from the Kala website. Shipping was fast, and communication with Kala was prompt and helpful.

The Korina Revelator is extremely attractive in terms of design and choice of woods, albeit I found the 36mm neck width on the small side. The Korina wood figure, albeit the lowest trim level, was shockingly beautiful. The woodworking and satin finish were top-shelf and without blemishes. I loved the woody and tactile feel of the satin finish. Where this instrument fell short was the setup: the C string suffered from pronounced buzzes when played softly open or fretted on the first, second, third, and fourth frets. The other strings were fine. I suspect the frets needed leveling.

Revelator sustain is longer than traditional ‘ukuleles and somewhat reminiscent of guitar sustain. Also, plenty of dynamics: play progressively harder, and it keeps getting louder and louder. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of this Revelator’s tone: the A and E strings were too bright for my taste, and the low G sounded somewhat dull and muted, especially when compared to the more full-bodied sound of my old Kala Koa Elite and Kala Doghair Elite tenors. As a fingerpicker and classical guitarist, I suspect I’d get along better with a 'ukulele with a cedar or redwood soundboard on a full-sized hardwood body like rosewood (darker tones).

Kala offered to fix the C string buzzes on my Revelator, but I decided…

Lives Up to All of the Hype

I was a little sceptical about whether the Korina tenor would be as good as all of the very positive reviews I had watched and read said it was. It is! Super comfortable to play. With a great neck. Excellent voice. The wound Low-G and C strings give it a full sound without overpowering the E & A plain strings.

I highly recommend getting the Revelator with a pickup installed.

It's just plain fun to play acoustically or plugged in; fingerstyle or strummed.

Oh, and it was a huge hit when I brought it to my ukulele club.

    Amazing sound, intonation and feel.

I have recently purchased a Korina tenor and it is amazing. Amazing projection but also sustain. It is very light but feels great to play.

    Highly recommended.

    Fantastic!

After reading so many good reviews of the Revelator, I bought one. It's beautifully made, and it sounds great. The reverb goes on forever. It's also very comfortable to hold and to play.
