Ebony is a popular and sought-after acoustic tonewood just about everywhere, notable for its depth and clarity in its lower frequency. Its vibrancy carries over in equal measure to the visual: reliably beautiful with vertical figuring and a range of chocolate, umber and russet shades. I bought the tenor ukulele in ebony wood from the blemished list in Kala's store. I was a bit hesitant to buy one listed as blemished, but with the $2.50 unlimited returns option I took the chance and I couldn't be happier I did. When I opened the box I was shocked at how beautiful it was. I looked all over it to see why it was listed a blemished, and all I found was a small nick on the back side of the neck. Although I had to really search just to find that. The look of the ebony wood and the gloss finish were fantastic. Of course good looks don't matter if it doesn't sound good, but after a few days of tuning to get the strings to the point where they're done stretching it sounds beautiful. I don't know if it's the tone wood, the design, or both but I'm very happy with the sound. The beveled edge on the front where my arm rests is a nice touch too, makes it more comfortable. The strap in the pics I added, that didn't come with it. I can't give this ukulele anything other than 5 stars, it exceeded my expectations.
