Kala Ambassador

Tara Scheyer is a music educator in Augusta, GA, where she runs a private music studio and is the Preschool and Lower School Music Teacher for Episcopal Day School. She was recently named the Independent Schools Teacher of the Year for the state of Georgia.

Before finding her home in education she toured the Southeastern United States with her girl-rock band, Snapdragon, released an album, and the video for her single, Superhero's Club, was on rotation on MTV. She then spent two years in Nashville writing songs for Reba McEntire's Starstruck Publishing.

She opened her Mud Puppy Music Studio in Georgia in 2004 where she has taught thousands of beginners the love of playing piano and ukulele. Her current ukulele classes range from UkuLittlesBitties (ages 3-4) to UkuSeniors (55+ in partnership with AARP and The Jessye Norman School of the Arts).

In 2015 she petitioned her school board to partner with Rock Bottom Music to purchase 24 Makala Dolphin and Shark ukuleles so she could start the first elementary classroom-based ukulele program in the Augusta area.

Her YouTube channel, Little Tara Songs, was started during Covid to reach her youngest students and is now being used in preschools as part of the music curriculum.

She performs at festivals, concerts and community events with her family-friendly group, Tara Scheyer & the Mud Puppy Band. With this band, she has released five family music CDs called HiFi Felix (volumes 1-5) and hosts an annual New Year's Eve Concert & Countdown to Noon.

While most of her focus is on working with children, she continues to offer "grown up music" in a duo with partner, Erin Dennis, playing concerts using only ukuleles and auxiliary instruments.

Tara lives in Augusta, GA, with her drummer husband, Kevin, and their younger son, Nopa. Older son, Felix, is a student at University of Georgia.
