U•BASS Artist - Alex Castro

Alejandro Castro (a.k.a. Jandrex) started playing bass at age 13 in his natal Cabo San Lucas, México, as part of a rock band called Hydraulik. At age 18, he moved to Guadalajara to major in Popular Music Composition at Fermatta Music Academy, where he took master classes with Steve Vai, Michael Manring, Greg Bissonette, Joey Calderazo, Esperanza Spalding, and fellow U•BASS Artist Nathan East, to name a few.

In the local music scene, he has worked with excellent musicians from many different genres such as Alberto Escobar, José Fors from CUCA, Ugo Rodríguez from Azul Violeta, and Klaus Mayer, among others. He has also played with international jazz musicians such as Alex Sipiagin, Dave Douglas, Boris Kozlov, Dean Bowman, and Pete Rogriguez.

Currently he is the upright bass player, arranger and musical director in jazz band, Aunt & Uncle, with which he has played shows in multiple forums and theaters in Guadalajara and other cities throughout México since 2018.
