Ebony is a popular and sought-after acoustic tonewood just about everywhere, notable for its depth and clarity in its lower frequency. Its vibrancy carries over in equal measure to the visual: reliably beautiful with vertical figuring and a range of chocolate, umber and russet shades. Many of today’s most popular species of Ebony originate from India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and throughout Western Africa. For builders and players a like, Ebony is synonymous with reliability, quality and character. Here in our Premium Exotic series, this instrument’s high gloss finish accentuates the rich grain with a dazzling gleam to do this famed tonewood justice.

    Another Winner

A quality ukulele with a minor ding on the back of the neck at a fantastic price. Looks great and sounds great. This is my second Kala Uke and I love it.

    Absolutely beautiful

I bought the tenor ukulele in ebony wood from the blemished list in Kala's store. I was a bit hesitant to buy one listed as blemished, but with the $2.50 unlimited returns option I took the chance and I couldn't be happier I did. When I opened the box I was shocked at how beautiful it was. I looked all over it to see why it was listed a blemished, and all I found was a small nick on the back side of the neck. Although I had to really search just to find that. The look of the ebony wood and the gloss finish were fantastic. Of course good looks don't matter if it doesn't sound good, but after a few days of tuning to get the strings to the point where they're done stretching it sounds beautiful. I don't know if it's the tone wood, the design, or both but I'm very happy with the sound. The beveled edge on the front where my arm rests is a nice touch too, makes it more comfortable. The strap in the pics I added, that didn't come with it. I can't give this ukulele anything other than 5 stars, it exceeded my expectations.

    Love this Uke.

Thanks! I finally replaced my old, cheap uke with this beauty. Love the sound, the finish, and the feel. I bought it during the Annual Blem Sale and I've been all over it and can't find a single imperfection.

    Great uke

This was a steal of a deal and it plays great. It was an upgrade from my cheaper concert uke and it sounds and plays so much better. The frets are further apart so it makes it a lot easier to play with big fingers, and the tone is much more clear and rich. The only blemish was a ton of sawdust sticking to the edges in the body, but that was not difficult to remove when I took the strings off to upgrade them.
