The Kala Contour Deluxe builds on the elegance and success of the original Contour series lineup with even more aesthetic and tonal enhancements, which bring together classic and modern ukulele style philosophies. The reimagined slotted headstock design and contoured comfort edge return in these models, and new features include a beautiful abalone binding on the front and back of the instrument.
These new iterations of the Contour line also use a lattice bracing on the top of the instrument, which allows for a thinner sound board, and increases volume and overall dynamics. Sonic improvements continue with an additional soundport on the side, which grants great tonal response for the player’s ears.

My first step into the baritone world was a Kala Contour Mahogany, which I still have. It has a soothing, warm, mellow tone, but I wanted something a little brighter to compliment it. The Contour Deluxe Spruce Rosewood was the best option available, so I decided to spend a little more and I'm so glad I did. Its a beautiful instrument with a warm, balanced tone but its also quite sweet and articulate. Individual notes and melodies really stand out on this baritone. The tone and responsiveness is what I would expect from an instrument costing twice as much!
Looking inside the construction is very clean. The lattice bracing is interesting - its quite thin compared to normal bracing. The exterior construction is top notch as well. The spruce is tight grained and the rosewood is gorgeous with some olive and burgundy streaks. I generally like plainer instruments, so I was little concerned about the abalone binding, but its actually on the subtle side and it matches the character of this instrument. Think Martin D-45! My only negative is the design of the slots on the headstock, the D and E strings make contact, but it doesn't hinder tuning.
Overall I love this baritone and I am super happy with this purchase!
