*Modifications to the nut slots and string holes by an experienced instrument technician may be required. As a streamlined alternative to modifications to the existing nut, the Flat Wound U•BASS® Nut by TUSQ® is available for purchase, to be installed by an experienced instrument technician only. Due to the change to a higher tension as well, a truss rod adjustment is also recommended.

I love the strings on my Ubass Scout, love the feel, love the sound. They need to stretch a LOT so don't whack on a set just before a performance Now I don't know if my scale length is an odd one or what compared to other Kala models, but the Gallastrings low E string was not long enough to make it from the bridge to the nut without spilling some of the taper wind onto the first fret. I used a razor blade to expose the bare string beyond the nut and taped the frayed portion to secure it. I would have expected custom designed string to fit the Scout more precisely. Not a big deal in any case, I love them overall. Oh and definitely shell out for the Kala Custom flatwound nut, much better than filing down the original one, plus you can switch it back later if you want to.

The first I played the Ubass I was blown away by the sound. It was full and rich with a ton of punch. But I wanted the string to provide a more realistic tension under my finger tips. I upgraded to these flatwound by Gallistrings and love them. In addition to a great sound, these strings added a bit of the signature growl with a super slick feel. 100% worth the investment!!! Excellent flatwound U-Bass strings. Really sound good on both my Graziano ukuleles, the doubleneck bass / baritone and the tenor size Hoffner Beatle style U-Bass.
