    Flatwound nut

Thankyou so much for sending out a flatwound nut. Upon installation the nut was a full 1/16 " too high. I modified it and it works perfect. Love the exotic Mahogany UBass!!

Definitely buy the nut if you upgrade to Flatwounds.

The original nut pops off with minimal resistance, so don't let that be a concern. Once the new nut is in place, you can glue it in or let it float under the string pressure (it stops sliding around when all the strings are in place). Maybe gluing it improves resonance/sustain but I doubt it. In any event, shelling out for the wider flatwound nut is more preferable than filing away at the factory nut, plus you can always switch it back in the future. Small price to pay.

    Flatwound Conversion 2

Well made and string grooves were pre-cut, so with minimal effort, I was able to remove the original nut and, with a tiny dab of glue, put the new nut in place. I added a small piece of metal to reinforce for the additional string tension.

Teacher Tip from Stephen Cox Bass

While listening to Stephen Cox Bass YouTube channel, recently Stephen looked up these dandy nuts. I have been playing my Beautiful SMHG-FS UBass (now discontinued) for 19 months and I would like to try a different voicing and change up the tactile presentation. This seems like the path to #KalaSuccess. Play your instrument everyday. It’s really fun. Here’s a picture of two fine Ukuleles. A Solid Mahogany UBass and it’s brother from another mother; A Magic Fluke Tenor Koa with MISI pickup. Wonderful to play with these two.

I fixed this for the lefty.

    This fix was not easy.

It would have been better if it was universal design.
