    Best purchase!

I recently started learning to play the ukulele during the pandemic. And during that time have come to love the Kala ukulele brands. I have purchased the makala and beginner uke Kala’s. This top mahogany just sounds amazing and is built like no other ukes I’ve owned.

Excellent balance of sound and warmth

I was a little hesitant at first to buy a spruce ukulele because many websites have said that spruce ukuleles have a brighter sound, and can get too bright. However, I was proven wrong. This ukulele has a really balanced and wonderful sound of warmth and brightness that really rings with fullness. It was basically exactly what I was looking for. I think the exotic mahogany sides really balance the sound. Overall really satisfied with this ukulele. The touch and feel of the ukulele is also really nice. With the price that is given, I would most definitely recommend this ukulele to any beginners or anyone who wants a better ukulele with a budget.

    great tone

This may have a laminate back and sides, but one would never know to play it. It sounds as good as, if not better than, many all solid wood instruments, even some costing five times as much. Kala does a fantastic job with its imports, and this is no exception. We have nine of them -- all solids and solid tops -- and they do not disappoint. They are every bit as much fun to play as our Hawaiian-made big K brands. You can't go wrong with Kala.

Beautiful with a dynamic sound that projects

I believe I got one of the last ones before the model got discontinued. For a first ukulele, I wanted an intermediate level model that I can grow with. The KA-SSEM-C was the perfect ukulele for that, especially at the price I got it for; a few dollars above my $150 budget.

Its understated beauty in the cream colored spruce and almost caramel mahogany with simple rosette and edge rope design. I especially liked the ebony bridge and fretboard with the black Nubone nut and saddle. The looks does not scream or shout. But the sound, on the other hand...

The solid spruce top really projects sound when strummed normally. The solid spruce delivers a full, and a little bright sound paired with the layered exotic mahogany sides and back. Because every string rings true, I know when I mess up, and it has helped me improve my finger placement and strumming technique.

I am a beginner in playing ukulele, but I’ve been playing the guitar for years. Yet I’ve been idle in my progress because most of the chords were barres and I could not get the stings pressed down enough. I got discouraged.

I believe I can go far with the ukulele because playing chords is easier with the smaller area and less strings. Barre chords are executed better except for some that span four or five frets. That’ll take time. I’m really enjoying learning to play. It’s even sweeter learning to play with my daughter who was gifted a ukulele this last Christmas.

The Kala KA-SSEM-C was an excellent first choice, and it will…
