Known also as Macacauba and Granadillo, Macawood has a growing reputation in the instrument world as a lively and spirited tonewood choice. Macawood hails from Central America, where it has long been called “the wood that sings,” and can be found growing today throughout Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. With tonal qualities similar to Rosewood, Macawood’s density provides a long sustain, overall responsiveness, and smooth bass overtones. Visually it is wild and fun, trading off chestnut and chocolate browns with an interlocking grain that all pops under our Premium Exotic high gloss finish.

My new Macawood concert ukelele has smooth, sweet, tone and encourages expressive playing. I've looked it over and cannot see a blemish, but perhaps the headstock should have been gloss finished, but I don't know. Thank you for sending a selection that I LOVE.

I took a chance on a "BLEM" uke and am extremely satisfied on the quality of the instrument. There is a small dent on the back of the neck, close to the tunning peg. The back of the body of the uke has some very, very light streaks that may of been caused by the finish. But honestly, the instrument looks great! And for the price of $89.10 (included a 10 percent discount at the end of the year) is a fantastic price. Macawood is native to Central America and is considered a lively and spirited tonewood choice.
